Has anyone seen a really good explanation about what, exactly, is so offensive in the cartoons? I've heard some people explain that any depiction of the Prophet Muhammad is blasphemous. I've heard others argue that the comics are racially insensitive carictures of Arabs.
The one with the bomb is a clear criticism of violent Islamic extremists. In response to what certain Islamic extremists considered an unfair characterization of themselves as being violent, they expressed their anger through violence. It would actually be humorous if it weren't so sad.

which cartoons?
I believe we're talking about the comics that lead to Protestors in Beirut setting the Danish Consulate on fire.
