Bad news for visitors to Canada

The government of Canada is contemplating eliminating the GST Visitor Rebate Program (news release). This means that accommodation and purchases over CAD 50.00 will suddenly become 6% (formerly 7%) more expensive in USD. News of this brings back memories of that sad day when Québec discontinued the rebate program for their provincial tax.
